How to catch Boney Eel
Fish at Ancient Ruin and keep casting: the base rate is 1 in 300, before luck. Rod luck, bait, potions and server events all raise your effective chance above the base rate, and a rod with enough Weight capacity matters for the heavy high rarity catches. If this fish is tied to an event area or a marked unobtainable spot in its location line, it can only be caught while that content is live.
Boney Eel is a Rare catch found at Ancient Ruin, listed on the official wiki at 1 in 300. That works out at about 300 casts at base odds for an average copy before any luck is stacked on top. It ranks 144 of 278 on this site by value, at 650 coins.
The Boney Eel has base catch odds of 1 in 300. The Boney Eel is one of Fish It!'s Rare fishs, and it is caught at Ancient Ruin. For a yardstick, it sits between the Fire Goby at 600 coins below it and the Charmed Tang at 670 coins above it. For the Boney Eel, the safest habit is the usual one: compare the offer against this page, then decide, rather than trading on the spot. Prices for fishs like the Boney Eel move with supply, so the figure here is a snapshot of the current lists, not a promise.
Value and mutations
The 650 coins figure is a community estimate from the rarity ladder on the values page, where the method is written out in full. It is a plain copy at a typical weight: the same fish with a mutation sells for a multiple of its base value, from 2.2x for Stone up to 6.5x for Galaxy, and a heavy copy of a big species is worth more than a light one. In the Trading Plaza the game shows its own Recent Average Price per listing, which is the figure to compare against before you accept any trade.
